Full disclosure: If Jody Hedlund writes a medieval book I'm reading it. End of story. Okay, but seriously, I love her books so much. In recent years I went from reading 400 page books in a day to struggling to read 2 books a year; however Hedlund is one of those authors I'm still capable of reading cover to cover. That's just how good she is. So of course I was ecstatic when I found out that she was writing a series based off of King Arthur. Like oh my gosh yes please, this sounds so good and book one certainly didn't disappoint. It features dragons (or decedents of dragons, but it's close enough), true love, and crafty sages. I loved the setting of this story as well, I'm a sucker for a good frozen and mountainy world. This story is about the Merlin of this tale, his name is Maxim and he must be protected at all costs. Elinor is a smart princess who would rather be a sage than rule a kingdom. And together they are in love despite the fact that they really, really shouldn't be. On a whole I loved it, there were a few points I wasn't overly fond of. I'm a little unsure of the whole origin of the "Excalibur", I don't know if it is based off of a legend or if Hedlund made it up herself, but I'm quite certain that Joseph wasn't fighting off Roman soldiers in the escape to Egypt. Also I think that a certain plot point towards the end could have been better explained. I was a bit confused for twenty or so pages there. Still, it was a thrilling tale, full of forbidden love and crafty plots. I can't wait for book two! I received a copy of this book from the author, all opinions, however, are my own.

All I can say is Jody Hedlund truly knows how to write a good story! Enamored is sweetly romantic and inspirational. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face toward the end. The research and knowledge that Hedlund puts into her work, through characters and setting, is absolutely astounding. I always learn new things when I read one of her books. I cannot wait for more in this series! 5/5 stars I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Exciting and Fun There is a princess. A hero, smarter than everyone. Faithful servants, evil conspiracies. War, fire breathing Dragon things, and love. It was exciting and progressed at a great pace. There is a bit of a cliffhanger so patience will be required until the next book. Something I'm not super great at. Oh, how I love this book that is based on the classic tale of Excalibur. Enamored has adventure that makes your heart pound, romance that takes your breath away, and a faith message that will warm your heart and touch your soul. What's even better is that this book isn't limited to one age group: teens will certainly love it, but certainly no more than an 'ahem' year-old grandmother! Author Jody Hedlund writes in several different genres, and she's made me a fan of her medieval/fantasy books. I highly recommend Enamored and I can't wait to see what's next in the Knights of Brethren series. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this 5-star read! I received an advanced reader copy from the author but was in no way obligated to write a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

I know what to expect out of Jody's books. A bit of a Christian element. Some fun romantic tension, a good romance. I always wish I had a bit more out of the characters. I feel like I have missed something. Sometimes her books don't work for me but this was a fun one and I enjoyed it. Clean romance. Light. Told from first person perspectives of Maxim and Elinor, this book will pull you deeply into the heart of Norvegia as they work to uphold their beloved kingdom. I loved Maxim’s keen intelligence and heart for good, even as he battles his own demons and darkness. Elinor’s bravery and compassion are quite endearing. Surprising turns in the plot prime the series for the next book to be released soon, which promises to continue this exciting adventure. If you enjoy YA romance, you will absolutely love this book. Y'all. Where do I even start with this book?! Enamored was everything I could have asked for. The author is incredibly talented in making the reader fall in love with the main characters and want to see them together. However, I wish there was more world-building and felt that it will probably happen in the next few books. This particular story is more along the lines of retelling Merlin’s story then one of the knights of the round table. “She was and always would be the sunrise in the dark shadows of my life.” Jodie Hedlund writes a story of love unrequited that comes to a point of betrayal. She manages to weave her faith into the story in a subtle and tasteful manner. The love between the main characters is believable and one the reader will root for. “If you let your fear determine your steps, you will always falter.” The message of not letting fear rule your life is an important one. The characters must find a way to deal with their past fears and hurts to learn to love and trust again. I actually wasn’t sure the book was going to end on a happier note because it was a series and could technically continue their love story in the next book. However, the book can be read as a standalone. “While I wanted more—a banquet of loving her for the rest of my life—I would gladly settle for any crumbs she might throw my way. Yes, I loved her enough that I would take even the smallest of crumbs.” Highly recommend if you enjoy reimagined Arthurian tales with clean yet passionate romance, adventure and political intrigue! My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

Jody Hedlund has a new medieval romance series coming out, and Enamored is the first one. If you enjoy beautiful princesses, handsome knights, dangerous villains, castles, dragons, and so on, you will enjoy this book. I received this book as a Christmas present from a relative, and I really enjoyed it! It is the start of a King Arthur/Excalibur retelling and I'm really excited to see how this story goes. I liked how even though this story had a Medieval theme to it, the kingdom's view on romance was based on love, and not duty, unlike many Medieval kingdoms who focus on duty. I loved the childhood best friends to lovers trope. It was executed really well! Hedlund has a wonderful way with imagery and being able to picture what she is painting in your mind. I saw many of the scenes in this book going in my head like a movie! And after all of the books I have read by Hedlund--trust me, it's a lot, but I've not read all of them--they're all different! That shows true talent right there! Elinor was a wonderful protagonist. She was her own person but at the same time she could rely on Maxim with no problems. And it was the same for him as well. No doubt about it just like the rest of her Hedlund's male leads--he was swoon worthy! There were a few things that felt a bit off. The flashbacks were a bit hard to read and understand, because they were in the same print as the rest of the story. It felt a little weird having Maxim describe some of the knights as he was observing during the tournaments. Most of the things he pointed out sounded like something a girl would, so that was a bit awkward. This was a really good book and I'm excited to read the next, but, at the end, it didn't feel like a lot of the loose ends were tied up. Yes, this is a series, but it still felt a little too open. Content: Language: None! Romance: All clean. Kissing, caressing, embracing. A passionate kiss interrupted. During a scene, girl and guy have to hide themselves and they get pressed against each other in the small hiding place. Guy had to cut away girl's dress to keep her from freezing to death after her dress was soaked. She still had her shift on, so no nudity was present. Girl accidently walks in on guy getting dressed. Violence: War is happening so there's violence with that. Dragons attack. Blood mentioned but not in detail. Head wound. Person has sword on chest which draws blood. Age recommendation: 13+

I loved her relationship with the King and Queen. It was incredibly sweet. I could tell that she loved them and wanted to make them proud, but she was also searching for her own family. I loved Elinor and reading about her. She was smart, and she wanted to be the best leader she could be. I enjoyed her character growth and reading about her falling in love. She tried to guard herself because she wanted to put her people first, but Maxim broke through her walls. Elinor had to learn to trust Maxim and work through her past. She had to trust that God knew what He was doing. I loved Maxim! There were times when I wanted to yell at him, but he was also an awesome character. He had his own faults, but I loved his little quirks and the things that made him special. He was such a sweetheart, and I just adored him! I felt so bad for him because he was just trying his best to make things work. Maxim had to learn to work past the expectations of his father and become even better than he was expected to be. Maxim had to learn to break free from the fear of failure. Maxim and Elinor were so sweet together. I liked how they were friends before they fell in love. They also had to work against the evil that was threatening to overcome the kingdom. They had to learn to trust each other. The plot was so interesting and I couldn't put the book down! It was so cool to see the connections to King Aruther lore and stories. I loved reading Hedlund’s twist on a fascinating story. There are also so many great characters who really add to the story. There were so many great quotes from this book. Here are a couple of my favorite “God always gives us the exact amount of courage we need to face whatever task he puts before us.” and “If you let fear determine your steps, you will always falter.” These quotes were so powerful and I love how Hedlund always leaves us with hope. While he loves Elinor, she’s a princess and he’s a commoner. There can be nothing but friendship between them. He returns just in time for Elinor’s 18th birthday and her selection of a husband. His father Rasmus, the Royal Sage tempts Maxim with the opportunity for his greatest wishes to come true. But, does Rasmus really have Maxim’s best interest or his own in mind? Jody Hedlund really knows how to write romance! I loved Maxim and Elinor and their relationship growing from friends to more. Maxim is truly an amazing hero. He wrestles between doing what’s right and following his heart. I loved his willingness to sacrifice his own desires for Elinor. Elinor is all that a princess and future ruler of a kingdom should be. She’s willing to sacrifice her own happiness despite not finding anyone she wants to marry other than Maxim. In battle, she willingly risks her life to save her people. She’s intelligent and brave as well as beautiful. I loved the premise of the story and the unique setting and time period. The dragons gave this story some “Lord of the Rings”/“How to Train Your Dragon” vibes. I enjoyed the side characters as well and look forward to Lis and Ansgar’s story. With plenty of action, swoon worthy romance, great characters, and a touch of inspiration expertly woven into the story, I highly recommend this first book in the new series! Though it’s written for YA, it’s definitely a fantasy romance anyone would enjoy. It could be read as a stand alone, but there are plot points and situations that leave me greatly anticipating the next book in the series. I was drawn in from the first pages outlining Elinor’s dilemma. How will the princess ever choose a husband from the twelve nobles selected for her when her heart has always belonged to her childhood best friend? That same best friend she hasn’t seen in ten years… who arrives out of the blue just two days before the day she must choose? Maxim was sent away from Elinor ten years ago simply because he cared enough for her to dream of marrying her. He was harshly reminded that a commoner like himself would never have such a chance. Getting a chance to even be a part of her life again is something he never even allowed himself to dream… but when his father, one of the royal sages, demands that Maxim not only spend time with Elinor but orders him to fan the flames of affection they’ve always had for one another, he can’t help but be suspicious. Maxim has always worked so hard to please him, but where must he draw the line when following his father’s plans begins to lead to darkness and treachery? Despite the dangers they’ve only scratched the surface of uncovering, Maxim and Elinor quickly fall into the easy camaraderie they always shared, easily forgiving past hurts they realize were not their fault. When that camaraderie morphs into something new and special, Maxim and Elinor must use the bond forged between them to uncover the truth behind the plot against the king and unravel the mystery of the Sword of the Magi. Enamored dances between medieval fiction and sweet romance and a touch of fantasy, introducing us to the country of Norvegia. The series is loosely based on the legends of Merlin, King Arthur, and the Knights of the Round Table. Maxim, if you will, is Merlin, but instead of magic he wields an impressive intellect. I enjoyed all of his quotes- from philosophers to the Bible and his adorably quirky propensity to count things such as elapsing time and square footage of rooms. Elinor is a reluctant princess, the second daughter of the king’s sister, who vanished with her oldest daughter Elisbet when Elinor was an infant. Feeling all the duty and none of the desire to rule, I enjoyed Elinor’s journey to make peace with her place despite her deepest desire to become a royal sage beside Maxim. Her doubts and struggles made her feel real to me and I know they will also make her relatable to YA readers. When everything seems to be going wrong, things also simultaneously start to go right, and Elinor’s faithfulness in honoring her duty is rewarded in unexpected ways with surprise discoveries along the way. I enjoyed this message of encouragement to be faithful even when it seems it’s contrary to all of your desires. And God ends up granting Elinor the desires of her heart because of her dedication to making decisions that are well-thought-out, keeping her word, and desiring to honor and serve the king. While life doesn’t always turn out the way we hope, what a joy to know God wants to give us good gifts and he has a plan to give us the best future, perhaps far beyond what we could have dreamed for ourselves. I’m super excited there’s going to be SIX of these, and especially glad I don’t have long to wait for Book 2, which I know is going to be pivotal! I have so many questions I want answered! I recommend Enamored for middle readers (as long as they’re ok with a couple kisses and battle scenes) up to grandparents! I enjoyed it oh-so-much. I received a complementary copy of this book from the author. My opinions are my own.

Jody Hedlund does it again! This may technically be a YA book but I am years beyond that category and still immensely enjoyed this book. Jody's books are pure entertainment and I was sucked in to the story from the very first chapter. This YA fantasy is a loose retelling of the story of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table and Jody does a fantastic job making the story her own with some unique twists. I appreciated that the characters had some depth which is sometimes nonexistent in YA Jody Hedlund does it again! This book had everything I have come to expect in a Jody Hedlund YA story - honorable heroes and heroines, a suspenseful plot, action and adventure, and lots of sweet but swoony romance. She delivers every single time and it is why she is an auto-buy and auto-read author for me! Counting down the days until I can read the next story in the series... I received a complimentary copy of this book but a positive review was not required.

This book, while it says Young Adult, does not read to me as a “young adult only” read. If you love magic, King Arthur and his knights like stories, and possibly even some “How to Twain Your Dragon” vibes, then this story is for you! Blurb: Princess Elinor knows she has to pick a husband to become the next king. But why can does her heart patter for none of the noblemen? The one her heart does long for has been gone for ten years and is a commoner; and apparently has no feelings towards her. He says he’s given up trying, but he still cares. That is, until he uncovers the plot to harm Princess Elinor, his childhood schoolmate. Upon his return, Elinor had turned into a stunning beauty and he cannot control his heart anymore. This first book in the Knights of Brethren series releases today and I cannot wait for the next to release December 7! Such a fun read that reminds me of Merlin 🧙‍♂️, How to Train Your Dragon 🐉, and The Sword in the Stone. If any of those are your favorites too, then this new series if for you!

Fantastic!!! I could not put this one down. Jody Hedlund wows the reader with her book “Enamored” with a style that is unmatched. Princess Elinor has been raised by her aunt and uncle and must choose who she will marry, but finding the right suitor has proven to be a difficult task. The noblemen of Norvegia simply do not meet her expectations. When Elinor’s old friend Maxim is called home by his father Rasmus, things get a bit complicated. Ramus has a plan to seize the throne. A thrilling new Medieval series from Jody Hedlund. Princess Elinor must choose a noble husband to rule alongside her, but the weeklong courtships have left her even more unsure of the choice she must make. When a friend from the past returns to the palace, she finds her heart torn between what it wants and her kingdom. Inspired by the legends of Excalibur, this adventurous romance is hard to put down. I liked that both Maxim and Elinor like reason and logic, challenging each other, and bringing out the best in each other. Maxim is analytical and in a constant game of wits with his scheming father, I liked that he thinks for himself and finds ways to rebel. A fast paced read, with admirable characters that you can cheer for all the way through, with a strong sense of right and wrong. I also liked that it sets up the second book well, leaving questions unanswered and introducing Lis and Ansgar. And who wouldn't love to have a faithful guard like Halvard? An adventurous romance set in a fantastical land loosely based on Arthurian legend, this series promises to be one of my favorite young adult series by Jody Hedlund yet! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Jody Hedlund is a master of YA fantasy. She has the perfect blend of otherworldly, medieval, and fairytale, with a touch of legendary. Just like her other similar books, I didn’t want this one to end! I enjoyed the Arthurian themes especially with knights, tourneys, lost royalty, legends, and all the fun stuff that contains. The Christian themes were woven in perfectly, especially the themes of redemption and honor. Beginning with The Fairest Maidens series, Jody Hedlund turned me into a medieval fiction fan and I have been looking forward to this new series since she first announced it. After reading Enamored, every minute of waiting was totally worth it. I was completely hooked from the opening line. There is so much story in the action-packed pages, I was totally captivated. This is another fun Mideval story from Jody Hedlund. I greatly enjoyed this book and look forward to the sequel in December, 2021! There are many lessons about good character in the midst of a delightful story. I appreciate that the writer doesn't give in to the modern day norm of intimacy between a man and woman outside the bonds of marriage. I definitely recommend this book and author. I thank the author for the privilege of being able to read this book early.. This is my honest opinion. This is another fun Mideval story from Jody Hedlund. “Enamored” is an excellent and exciting start to Jody Hedlund’s new series! Beauty, brawn, AND brains… a winning combination in this adaptation of a classic legend! Love that the importance of wisdom and humility are highlighted and celebrated in this particular story! This latest read from Jody Hedlund lives up to its name! This story is sure to enchant and will give readers the urge to return to its pages again and again. I loved the romance between Maxim and Elinor ! It was passionate and raw, yet tender which is everything I look for in a romance . There is also intrigue and mystery which keeps readers turning the page. My only regret is that I didn’t have longer to spend with the characters who became good friends on the page .

I have read several of Jody Hedlund’s books but this is the first time I have read her YA medieval books. I didn’t think I would like it because it isn’t my typical genre but I loved it. It had suspense, great plot and a great longing to read the next book in the series. Take a leap and read a book that isn’t your typical genre, like I did. You won’t be disappointed! Especially with this book!

Jody Hedlund is fast becoming one of my favorite YA authors. I love her storytelling skills. She creates wonderful tales of time gone by, with reasonable explanations for dragons! I love her characters, she fully develops both good and evil characters that keep one engaged in the story. Jody brings to life beautiful settings and weaves her faith throughout the tale. Brew up a pot of tea to enjoy with a slice of quick bread and curl up in a comfy spot on a chilly afternoon for an awesome read! For Jody Hedlund is fast becoming one of my favorite YA authors. Swoon! Jody's newest creation is YA novel, so while geared for a younger audience, it still makes this definitely not YA's stomach flutter. The characters are likeable and romantic and I love the interactions between them. You could feel their connection even in their retelling of their memories. Delightful read. But alas, it's a bit of a cliffhanger! Must I wait another month to read part 2? Torturous! Swoon!
