In Dan Alatorre's previous two Double Blind series stories, this author has treated us to an edge of your seat experience that keeps you breathless and hating to put the book down. Another intriguing book by an amazing author. A serial fire bomber is on the loose. The detectives are on the case, trying to find him before there are more victims. Fast paced, heart pounding book that has you gripped until the end.

There are several backstories to keep you interested and possibly focused on non-police matters. It is all good. Third Degree offers fever-pitched excitement. The tension between the two police partners is partially because they are sensing that their future is together as life partners; each has the other's back throughout even when there are reasons to suspect infidelity. The crime is clear -- powerful firebombs are burning people who have some relationship to a small exclusive community, Twin Hills. The victim's skin is burned so badly (third-degree burns) that they are unlikely to live if they did not die immediately from an explosion. The arson events are set to go off like clockwork. Investigating the victims, crime scenes and business associates turn up many red herrings -- cases of fraud, infidelity and the like -- that you might wonder if everyone might want everyone else out of the way. The who-done-it is not resolved until the end. And that's that way a mystery should unfold. One great interlude occurs in Miami outside a police station when a thief tries to hold up Sergio, learns that Sergio is having "woman trouble" and gives advice. It is priceless. Go ahead. Indulge yourself in this excellent mystery.

Mix a secret high-society orgy party, a serial fire-bombing murderer, and two detectives having a romantic relationship crisis, and you have the ingredients for an entertaining crime thriller from Dan Alatorre. Mr. Alatorre is a favorite of mine and I read the first book in this series, but not the second. There was obviously some development of the relationship between Sergio and Carly (the detective team) in book #2, but it’s easy to pick that up here in book #3 without missing a beat. Mr. Alatorre is a favorite of mine and I read the first book in this series, but not the second. There was obviously some development of the relationship between Sergio and Carly (the detective team) in book #2, but it’s easy to pick that up here in book #3 without missing a beat. The story moves at a brisk pace and is well-written, with deep and fascinating characters, an intricate plot, and a dash of humor. The detective team from Tampa travels to Georgia to assist the investigation of two fire-bombings at an exclusive lake-side community outside Atlanta. The two bombing/murders tie into a wealthy family that owns half the property at the lake, and which has some dark secrets. Carly and Sergio are dispatched as part of a multi-state serial murder task force. (OK, it could be the FBI rather than two Tampa detectives, but go with it.) It’s also Christmas Eve, which makes everyone want to solve the case quickly. The entire investigation covers only two days, which compresses the action and keeps the pace moving. From the beginning, the author gives us the killer’s-eye view of some scenes. We get inside the killer’s very disturbed head as (he or she) plans the next bombing. As Sergio and Carly scratch the surface of the case, the killer is planning for an even bigger target. It’s a race against the clock until midnight on Christmas Day for the detectives and the local cops to unravel the clues and prevent a catastrophe. The tension level remains high throughout. An early scene finds Carly and Sergio are bickering about their relationship issues while an armed robbery suspect lies on the ground in handcuffs. When the criminal tries to say anything, Carly and/or Sergio yells “shut up” so he doesn’t interrupt their argument. This is great comic relief in a tense and intense story. The premise and set-up for the story are great, the characters are well-drawn and the writing is a pleasure to read. There are a few issues with the plot and specific details within the story, but they can be overlooked as the story careens forward toward its exciting conclusion. There’s plenty of action and many secrets to be revealed and mystery for the reader to try to guess. It’s an enjoyable and entertaining read from an excellent storyteller.

Such a great read! Suspense, danger, death, deception, and twists and turns. This story starts with a normal day that turns into a nightmare. Dan Alatorre always delivers on a great read. His characters are well developed and likable in his stories, except for the bad guys, of course. The suspense and mystery he writes in his stories draw me in from the first page. The first line generally informs that there is so much to reveal in the story that I can’t wait to get engrossed in the book. Third Degree did not disappoint me either. It drew me in from the first line and I was ready to find out what would happen and who would be the villain in the story. Of course, there is more to the story than just finding the villain, there is so much going on behind the scenes that made the story so much better to read. I give this book a 5-star review and will hopefully get to read the other two stories prior in the series soon, Double Blind and Primary Target.

Thought I finally figured it out, had it down to one of two people but unfortunately didn't come to the right conclusion. What a twist!! If you enjoy a suspenseful thriller and solving a mystery, this is the book for you. Dan is a creative writer bringing his characters to life. Double Blind is a thrilling series, a must read for all of you mystery buffs!! Can't wait for the next book in the series. This is one of my favorite series to read, never disappoints. Highly recommend!! Received an ARC and this is my honest voluntary review.

First know that you don't have to have read the first two in this series to enjoy this book (but, go ahead, you'll be glad you went back!) Second, no spoilers in my reviews. This novel has Carly and Sergio visiting the backwoods of Georgia as part of a task force to find out who is setting off bombs and how if in any way, they might be related. If you are a reader who loves action, mystery, adventure, and some scrappy characters, this is definitely a book you don't want to pass up. If you love a great police procedural, you'll love this too. Although I figured out about two-thirds through the book who the bomber was, I was NOT prepared for the surprise ending! So, in summary, I highly recommend this book (and the others as well). You won't be sorry.

I loved this book. Dan Alarorre has done it again, he some how manages to intertwine the characters to make to story more exciting. Dan is a genius with his stories, and once again he stumped me on who the real murderer was. I never even thought about that person being the murderer. I enjoyed reading about Carly and Sergio and their diverse methods of catching a killer. A murderer is on a killing spree. The murderer is an arsonist. What is motivating the killer to commit such horrendous crimes? This book gripped me by the guts with its intriguing twists. Dan Alatorre always crafts superb plots which are addictive. It is difficult to put the book down as it is totally absorbing

"Fast-paced" indeed! Third Degree kept me in its clutches from the get-go, had my heart racing and my brain spinning throughout. It was wonderful to spend time again with Carly and Sergio, and all the characters in the book were alive and engaging, even the main antagonist who was so dark I made sure I didn't read too close to bedtime. The mystery kept me guessing, and the ending was quite satisfying, which is exactly what I hope for in a book. "Fast-paced" indeed! Carly and Sergio are in the thick of it again. After a tense opening, they are called onto a case in Georgia of a serial fire bomber. Does Alatorre bribe people to write 5 star reviews for this book? It was a decent plot with a lot of potential, but unfortunately extremely predictable with awkward and cringy dialogue. The main characters were chronically underdeveloped and why does Sergio call the woman he loves ‘dude’?? It was ok. But definitely not 5 stars
